Essay on “how technology has changed our lives” through a movie

Questions about plot of the film “Steve Jobs” (2015):

  1. Who is the man with glasses speaking at the beginning of the film? Which one is his most famous novel (with a movie version too)? Tell us about its plot. In 1988 another famous Sci-Fi writer was interviewed, Isaac Asimov, (http://youtu.be/oIUo51qXuPQ) He spoke about the future of technology in the next twenty years. Were they, right? If a lot of their predictions have become true, what about their fears?
  2. When the father with his son is going to interview Arthur C. Clark, he asks that, if our life is going to be set around computers, wouldn’t society become computer dependant?. Which is his answer? Could you link that answer with Erasmus+ Program?
  3. In the first Keynote presentation in the movie, set in 1984, it is said that they had showed a Macintosh that would change the world. Do you think that something like that is possible or it is only marketing speaking?
  4. The movie is a brief history of the personal computers. Which companies compete in that technological run? Which is the objective of that run? And Steve Jobs participation in it?
  5. In one of the first scenes, somebody tells Jobs: if you clash with everybody, nobody will say you “hello”. Do you think Steve Jobs is good at being nice with people, colleagues, friends, family? Do you think his entrepreneurial success is worth of it?
  6. All the movie is narrated through the previous moments before different keynotes in Jobs twenty years’ career. Why do you think they have selected those moments? Were they important moments only for Jobs? Why were they important?
  7. Do you think Steve Jobs was seeking only fame and fortune? Watch this conference at Stanford http://youtu.be/HHkJEz_HdTg Set the differences between his own view about his career and the movie one. Was Steve Jobs true to himself? Does it compensate being so harsh with other people?
  8. How has technology changed the way we develop relations? Watch this animated short film (http://youtu.be/O_7zVuU3ZHc) and discuss about if it describes our present-day society. Does it remind you about the fears the father at the beginning of the movie had (question 2)? Compare the way you communicate with your friends with your father’s way. The topic in the short film is that in our society we live off appearances. Link that with how important to Steve Jobs the keynotes were.
